AN army of greengrocers swapped cabbages for camouflage on Saturday to raise £200 for a children's charity.
Staff at Stokes Fruit and Veg store, in Warminster, dressed in military uniforms to launch a fundraising drive for the NSPCC Full Stop campaign.
Customers donated £190.31 as the army of greengrocers bid to top last year's total of £26,000 donated to cancer charity Clic.
Manager Lynn Young said: "We had to wear green because that is the colour for the charity and fits in with us being greengrocers.
"The Royal Green Jackets kindly donated the uniforms and my staff were an army elite team for a day.
"I would like to thank all our customers for their donations and especially the ones we threatened to kidnap if they didn't pay up."
Stokes will be collecting funds for the NSPCC throughout the year and are planning events on Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Halloween.
On Saturday, customers shopping for fruit and vegetables in the Three Horseshoes Mall handed over cash for the children's charity in collection buckets and a tombola was held.
Marketing manager for Stokes, Bobbie Sansom said: "Fundraising is crucial to the work of the NSPCC and we are keen to support this amazing charity and play our part in preventing cruelty to children."
Each January Stokes chooses a charity for an annual fundraising campaign and this year all 73 stores nationwide are taking part.
