Ref. 27843ENGLAND rugby hero Jonny Wilkinson is one of the players to sign a shirt won by a Trowbridge girl. Maeve Taylor, 13, won a competition held by the junior section of the England Supporters' Club to design a poster.
She said: "I am really pleased. When I found out I had won I just went crazy. My dad used to play rugby so I have been into it since I was born."
Maeve, who is in year nine at The John of Gaunt School, has played rugby for the Trowbridge under 16s club for the past 18 months. She also plays netball and hockey for her school.
Maeve's rugby hero is Jonny Wilkinson, who kicked the final drop goal that clinched England's historic 20 points to 17 victory over Australia in the World Cup final.
She entered the competition with a drawing of eight faces of players from the world cup team, including Jonny Wilkinson.
But the youngster did not think her entry would be chosen as the big winner.
She said: "I like art but I didn't think I was very good at it."
The competition prize is an England rugby shirt signed by all the players and Maeve plans to put it up on her bedroom wall.
Dad Tony said: "The shirt is signed by the whole squad and she is really over the moon with it.
"She has been showing it to everyone but it is really too good to wear so I think we are going to get it framed."
