PENSIONERS demanding lower council tax rates have collected more than 1,400 names on a petition.
Frank Avenell, 82, secretary of the Swindon Fairness for Pensioners' Group, says that the campaign has gone from strength to strength.
Mr Avenell said: "It's going very well and people are really getting involved in it.
"I have sent hundreds of forms out now to workingmen's clubs, residents' associations and homes across Swindon, and I am more than encouraged by the response so far."
The group is confident that it will get 2,000 signatures.
They plan to present it to council leader Mike Bawden on the steps of the Civic Offices at the beginning of next month ahead of the council's tax announcement.
Anyone wishing to obtain a form can call Mr Avenell on 01793 430899.
