A TRAINING group has applied for more funding when its budget runs out in August.

In its first two years Free2Learn, which gives money towards training, has funded 750 organisations in Wiltshire, including Arkell's Brewery, Thamesdown Transport, Thames Water and Zurich Financial Services, in Swindon.

Employers decide what training is needed and how it is best accomplished.

About 6,500 employees have taken part and Free2Learn has so far received £16 million.

"We are urging the Government to make a similar level of funding available to Free2Learn during its third year so that we can build on the great success of the project so far," said Marion Sweet, Free2Learn Area Manager for Wiltshire and Swindon.

"Some small or medium sized businesses have received as much as £20,000 in training costs and wage compensation and they are convinced the Free2Learn-funded training has helped them to reduce staff turnover, increase productivity and improve customer care.

"For example, in one organisation staff turnover has been reduced from 15 per cent to 1.5 per cent, while another employer reported a ten per cent increase in productivity."
