PARISH councillors in Haydon Wick have distributed leaflets to clarify plans for a multi-purpose games area. The move is a reaction against the mystery letter-writer who has been sending hate mail to councillors who support the park.
Anonymous letters have also been sent to residents, claiming the site will be a magnet for drug addicts and create noise and litter.
The council plans to build the £124,000 games area, which will include a skatepark, on a field between Haydonleigh Primary School and Westfield Road.
The area will be for both school and community use.
But the plans have split residents. Earlier this month, more than 100 angry householders attended a parish council meeting to protest against the scheme.
The council has distributed 1,900 leaflets to householders living near the school.
Councillors claim the site will not cause problems, and is badly needed.
Coun Tel Hudson said: "Skateboard ramps are noisy, so the plan is to put them as far away from neighbouring houses as possible.
"The ramps will be more than 50 yards from the nearest house.
"We will be using the latest sound reduction technology, and the field will be locked at 9pm."
