THE played their first game on a full-sized pitch for the first time and struggled to cope with the wide open spaces.

Trowbridge ran the ball wide early in the game with Hugo O'Neill having to put in in a superb try scoring tackle within minutes of kicking off.

But from an attacking line out Trowbridge used width and pace to score an unconverted try in the corner to take the lead.

After the restart, the big Trowbridge pack kept up the pressure on Devizes who had to defend throughout the first quarter, but they got into their stride after ten minutes, finally gaining decent possession, and they were able to use their normal strong running game.

Excellent work from Lewis Paget and Matthew Joplin led to quick ball being passed along the three-quarter line, Charlie Bouch bursting through from full-back to score by the posts.

The sides looked well matched as Trowbridge took the lead again with a well worked try, Devizes charging down the conversion attempt and then raising their game after the kick off.

Newcomer Jack Clark took an excellent catch as Trowbridge cleared out of their 22 to set up a driving run from Paget, who offloaded to the supporting Chris Warren close to the Trowbridge line, Jack Aroskin picking up quick ball from the resulting ruck to dive over the line and level the scores again.

In the second half Devizes came out very strongly, showing great committment, and they were rewarded with an early try from Paget after a thrusting run down the blind side.

Another new lad, Ollie Clark dispatched a confident conversion Devizes kept Trowbridge under pressure from the restart even though Trowbridge fielded one of the strongest packs they had played against this year, and a further converted try from O'Neil followed, Clark again converting.

The next score came after George Potter pounced on a loose ball and fed Will Baker, who passed to Josh Cooper to slip the ball to a very sharp Chris Warren who crashed over the line.Ollie Clark again converted.

Trowbridge really started to look under pressure now and from a breakdown in mid field, Blair Collins-Thomas regained possession and the ball went through several pairs of hands before Bouch sliced through the cover defence to score his second try for Clark to convert once again.

In the closing minutes Trowbridge continued to defend well, and they had the satisfaction of scoring the final try to bring the final score to 17-38.
