ALAN Griffin will remain a Corsham Town player until the end of the season after turning down a move to Dr Martens League neighbours Chippenham Town.

A host of clubs, including Paulton Rovers and Swindon Supermarine, have already expressed an interest in the striker, who has been a key figure in Corsham's climb up the Screwfix League Division One this season.

Griffin, 20, will train with Chippenham this season and may play a couple of games later for the Bluebirds if their fixtures don't clash with Corsham, but his priorities will lie with his current club.

Manager Colin Bush brought Griffin to the Southbank in the summer from Hellenic Division side Malmesbury Vics.

He has scored 17 goals so far this season to help lift Corsham to sixth in the league and Griffin feels he owes it to his manager to stay until the end of the season.

He said: "I am loving it at Corsham. It is quality. Nobby is a great manager and we are doing well this season.

"It is pretty unbelievable what has happened to me this season. Three clubs have been interested in me and that is down to Nobby's coaching.

"After Paulton came in for me I said I would stay until the end of the season and although when Chippenham came in for me Nobby said he would not stand in my way I felt it would be wrong to move.

"I owe him a lot. With the restructuring of the league we could still possibly go up. We have a great team down there."

Griffin, whose brother Charlie already plays at Chippenham, said he thought long and hard before making his final decision.

He said: "It was a very hard decision for me to make because it was a good offer from a big club.

"But at the moment the way things are there with their chairman leaving I am better off staying.

"I just really want to be playing for the rest of the season. I spoke to Steve White and he could not guarantee me first team football because there are obviously better players at the club.

"Nobby said I would be playing at Corsham Town so I will stay here and then train with Chippenham in pre-season."

Chippenham Town manager Steve White said Griffin's decision suited both parties.

He said: "It is probably the best situation for everyone. We will get a chance to look at him training while he stays with Corsham for the rest of the season.

"There could be four or five games that don't clash and if so we could include him on the substitutes' bench.

"I have had a long chat with Colin Bush and we have both agreed this is a good scenario."
