YOUTH FOOTBALL: YOUNG footballers are facing an uncertain future after being turfed off Trowbridge Cricket Club.
The 250 youngsters of Trowbridge Wanderers FC have been playing on the County Ground since 1994 but have been told this week they need to look for a new home for next season.
To make matters worse, they have been ordered off the main cricket ground immediately, throwing their end of season fixture list into chaos.
The football club were due to hold an emergency meeting last night to discuss their options.
Club chairman Chris Moore said the cricket club had reneged on their contract by demanding them to leave the main field immediately
Moore said: "They are throwing us off with nowhere to go. We have still got games left to play and we have an agreement with them to play there until the end of March.
"The letter we received was dated March 1 telling us we could not play on the main field any more. We had no indication it was going to happen.
"We have been a partnership over the years because we have put a lot of money into the club. What makes me angry is the ground will now be unused for a lot of the year.
"We have two or three teams going for the league title and now have no idea where they can play football.
"After a 10-year relationship I would expect a bit of notice rather than this letter which has just come out of the blue."
Cricket club chairman Brian Scrine denied they were going against the terms of the contract.
He said: "It is the same every year, although we did allow them an extra week last year for an important cup game because they came and asked.
"We need six weeks to get the outfield and the square right for the cricket season. Anything else just is not long enough. But we are allowing them to continue on the second field until the end of March."
He continued: "We are ending the agreement because of the expense of putting the ground right again for the cricket season.
"We are trying to get better and better cricket so we want the ground to be up to standard."
