LITTER pickers are calling for help to clean up Warminster's rubbish-strewn streets. The town centre roads are regularly cleared of dumped rubbish and litter but residents living in the suburbs fear an increase in mess is making the town ugly.
Over the past 12 years Warminster town councillor Les Rose has spent an hour each day picking up litter in his neighbouring streets.
Now campaigners are hoping to enlist a part-time rubbish collector.
Cllr Les Rose said: "The town centre has a litter picker but the surrounding areas are left to rot.
"I think I have picked up 3,500 bags of rubbish. We have installed new bins but people don't use them.
"So many of our streets are strewn with plastic bottles, cans and fish and chip papers. It makes Warminster look ugly."
Warminster town council is hoping to employ a part-time rubbish collector with cash left over from last year's budget.
A team of litter pickers is carrying out a clean-up of Lakeside Park on Saturday. Anyone keen to help should meet at the entrance at 10.30am.
