Police believe two children wanted for a distraction burglary at a pensioner's home may have been trained by adults. Six households in Warminster have now reported attempts by children as young as nine to con them.
The children, who are believed to be aged between nine and 12, stole £500 from the home of an 85-year-old man on Sunday February 22.
Two more households contacted police this week after reading the story in last week's Wiltshire Times.
The children did not gain entry to the homes, but police say they are now following up a number of leads.
Police have confirmed if the burglars are below the age of 10 they will escape prosecution.
PC Jo Wyer, of Warminster police, said: "Two more people have come forward this week so it looks like the children visited seven homes on the Sunday evening.
"If the children are below 10 years old they cannot be prosecuted but if they are being groomed and trained by adults then they (the adults) could be prosecuted."
