I write regarding the piece in the Wiltshire Times (February 13) regarding money for road improvements in Dilton Marsh being split between the High Street and Tower Hill.
Originally £30,000 was to be provided by Persimmon Homes for road improvements to Tower Hill under a 106 agreement, a legal document. These improvements were to be in place before the new distributor road serving Leigh Park was opened.
This money was never used for that purpose, instead a traffic island and double yellow lines were put in by the council. The single island has done no good at all in slowing down traffic especially as there are no speed humps and despite many letters and phone calls to Highways nothing else is to be done yet.
The next thing we know it is recommended that £20,000 of this money is transferred to the High Street to contribute to the traffic calming there.
The volume and speed of traffic has increased considerably along Tower Hill, especially since traffic calming was introduced along the High Street and there have been many near misses, minor bumps and incidents of verbal abuse from drivers using the road.
On Sunday February 29 there was an accident a car belonging to a resident on Tower Hill was hit by another vehicle travelling up the road.
According to the police who attended there have been many minor incidents along this stretch of road so why were we told there isn't a problem and why was it seen fit to transfer the money intended for improvements here?
Isn't it time the council started listening to the views of people living in the community instead of just going ahead?
