THE headteacher of Haydon Wick Primary School, Brian Fullam, has been assuring parents and governors that his school is not under threat of closure or merger.
Last Tuesday, the Evening Advertiser reported accurately that education minister David Milliband was calling for seven Swindon primary schools and one secondary to either be axed or merged because of falling pupil numbers.
Teachers, their unions, and councillors reacted angrily to the scare-mongering which had resulted from the Government reacting to out-of-date statistics.
"Our school is over-subscribed and is in no danger," said Mr Fullam. "It is a shame that such a statement was made, but there is no cause for alarm here."
