A PETITION from Swindon doctors calling for health warnings on alcohol products is to be presented by South Swindon MP Julia Drown to the Cabinet Office on Wednesday.
The gastroenterolgy team at Great Western Hospital is supporting a nationwide campaign for alcoholic drinks to be labelled with warnings about the dangers of abuse and stating how many units of alcohol are contained.
The doctors have collected around 500 signatures.
Drink-related illnesses such as cirrhosis of the liver kill thousands of people every year in Britain.
Alcohol abuse also causes problems to hospital staff when intoxicated patients are admitted to accident and emergency.
