LEISURE centres across Swindon are offering free swimming or skating as a reward in a cigarette amnesty.
Tomorrow is No Smoking Day, which the council supports.
It is marking the occasion by offering a free skating or swimming voucher to anybody aged 12 to 16 who hands over at least five cigarettes at any of its leisure centres.
No Smoking Day is aimed at encouraging people to give up the habit and offering practical help to anybody who needs it. The leisure centre amnesty if the result of a partnership between the council and Swindon Primary Care Trust, the body which has overall responsibility for community health care in the area.
Meanwhile, the Delta Tennis Centre has been given a Government Smoke Free Award for banning smoking from its premises.
Council spokeswoman Caroline Pike said: "It is hoped that other leisure centres will follow in the Delta path, aiming to achieve similar accolades in the near future."
