MALMESBURY inched closer to the runners-up spot in the under 15 section after a comfortable

5-0 home win over Gunners Boys.

The three points consolidate Malmesbury's position behind champions elect Purton.

Jack Ward opened the scoring on the counter after Malmesbury soaked up early pressure from Gunners.

Myles Young found the net to make it 2-0 with a good strike and Jake Miles extended the advantage with a fine individual goal.

James Brown made it 4-0 with the deftest of touches to deceive the keeper and Mark Lane rounded of a good team display with a crisp left-footed strike.

In the under 14s Champions Cup, Cricklade hit 17 without reply at Oaksey.

James Lally led the scoring with six, Daniel Thompson weighed in with four and there were braces for Ramin Khoransani, Luke Hunt and Sammy Fish.

But the biggest cheer of the afternoon was reserved for Cricklade defender John Coakes, who scored his first goal in four seasons at the club from the penalty spot.

Understrength Wroughton, already guaranteed a place in the semi-finals after topping the group, suffered a shock 5-0 loss at Beeches.

Kingsdown defeated Highworth 3-2 with Joe Murphy scoring from 30 yards. Lee Hanlon and Josh Stanley were also on target.

Eldene earned a deserved point against under 13 league leaders Cirencester with a 2-2 draw.

After a goalless first half, the game exploded into life after the interval as Ciren's Matt Wignall handled a goal-bound effort from Adam Devine on the goal line to give Eldene a penalty.

Wignall was fortunate to receive a yellow card rather than red for his actions but Luke Robinson ensured justice was done from the spot.

Cirencester rallied and halfway through the second half scored two goals in three minutes.

But Eldene restored parity when the referee judged that a Robbie James effort had crossed the line after a goal-mouth scramble.

The point keeps Eldene five points behind the leaders Ciren and out of the running, but Highworth's win against Brunel Boys puts them three points behind the leaders with a game in hand.

With Highworth travelling to Ciren on the final day of the season, this title race is set to go down to the wire.
