THE Okus Area Residents' Associa-tion, led by Terry King, has helped the developers of two major housing schemes by suggesting names for the sites.
Fairview Homes Ltd wants to turn Okus Industrial Estate into a thriving village centre of more than 300 homes, including 230 two-bedroom flats, 12 two-bedroomed houses, two three-bedroomed houses, 59 four-bedroomed houses and 19 one-bedroom flats.
The Association says it would like to see this development called Okus Ridge as it would be built on a narrow ridge running north to south across the high ground on Okus Road.
And the Bloor Homes redevelopment of the redundant Princess Margaret Hospital site should be called Okus Heights, according to the association.
Mr King, who also heads the Front Garden Action Group's fight to save land between Old Town and the M4 from development, said: "We have been closely consulted by the planners and developers and, while largely supporting plans for housing on the two sites, have given our views about traffic problems and the requirement for a village centre, including medical facilities, a shop, a sub post office, a pharmacy and a community hall to serve the whole area."
The two new developments will triple the number of people living in the Okus area.
