Devizes AC, on top of their game all season and winners of the local Upper Thames Angling Times Winter League in fine style, failed to book a place in the national final.
The Devizes team could only finish last on virtually their own water, the Kennet and Avon Canal, on Saturday.
It was disappointing, but they were not alone as many other fancied teams also fell by the wayside in a match that was very patchy.
Hayes won the match, followed by Delcac, Daiwa Gordon League and Dam/Lock.
n The Wednesday Club held their match at Lechlade Marina.
A total of 10 competitors all caught silver fish with Cliff Brown winning with 6lb 9oz, ahead of Pete Saunders (4-15-0).
There was also a tie for third place between Ricky Spiteri and Pete Gilbert, each with 3lb 6oz.
n The BCA match was also a hard-fought affair on the Potters stretch of the canal at Bedwyn.
Derek Hillier needed just 3lb 4oz to win ahead of Sid Webb (3lb) and Mick Flynn (2-7-0).
n TEAM Elgin star Darren Renolds did well to finish fourth in the hotly contested River Evenlode Championships on Sunday with 29lb of bream.

Anglers are reminded not to get caught out without a current Water Authority Licence.
These are renewable from April 1 at Post Offices.
THE Environment Agency would like to remind all anglers that the coarse fish close season starts as usual on March 15 and runs to June 15 inclusive.
The aim of the close season is to protect fish stocks during the breeding season.
The close season applies to all rivers, streams and drains in England and Wales, as well as to the Norfolk Broads and some specified still waters and canals.
Fishery owners and angling clubs may also choose to operate a close season through their own club or fishery rules, to protect spawning fish or to rest the local environment.
Anglers should ensure they are clear on their fishery rules and keep this in mind throughout the period.
Anyone who is unsure as to whether the close season regulations apply to where they intend to fish, is asked to obtain full details from their Local Environment Agency Office on 0845 9333111.
MEMBERS of Ashton Keynes AC are reminded that litter collecting will take place this Sunday.
A work party will meet at the Rangers Hut at 9am. All members welcome.
