A NORTH Wiltshire councillor is demanding that John Prescott holds an inquiry into the development of the Front Garden in neighbouring Swindon.
Conservative councillor Mollie Groom, who represents the Lydiards and Broad Town on North Wiltshire District Council, will propose at next Tuesday's full council meeting that Mr Prescott should "call in" the Southern Development, known as the Front Garden.
Coun Groom claims that the planning approval given last month by Swindon Council is premature because, she says, Swindon does not currently need houses and Swindon Council's Local Plan does not sufficiently mark out the rural buffer between Wroughton and Swindon.
She also claims: "The routing of the Croft Road/Hay Lane Link is unsustainable and will create more car-use, particularly along the M4 and rat-runs through the Lydiards."
Coun Groom has complained that "no account has been taken of objections".
She has now proposed a motion to North Wiltshire District Council that it officially approaches the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, requesting the public inquiry is held.
The council will decide whether to support to the motion at the meeting on Tuesday evening.
