GAZETTE & HERALD: Colerne Primary School is proposing to finish at midday on Fridays to give teachers more preparation and marking time.
The school governors have put forward the idea of starting the school day at 8.30am allowing for an early finish each Friday.
Head teacher Anne Orme said school governors had a legal obligation to balance teachers' work and life.
By September 2005 ten percent of teaching time must be taken up by planning and assessment, according to Government targets.
"It is all about workforce remodelling in teaching. There is a national agreement to try and address the problems of recruitment and attention of teachers," said Mrs Orme.
The school governors aim to reach a decision by May.
