MORE road closures face drivers on the busy A303 over the coming months, as work continues to complete the slip roads being constructed at the Solstice Park junction in Amesbury.
The westbound carriageway of the A303 will close at 10pm tomorrow, Friday, until 6pm on Saturday, so that construction work can be done on the westbound slip roads linking the A303 with Porton Road in safety.
On Friday, March 26, the eastbound carriageway of the A303 will be closed from 8pm until 6pm on Saturday, March 27.
Traffic will use the same diversions used during the weekend of February 28/29, when the A303 was closed completely to allow a new bridge to be swung into place.
Westbound traffic will leave the A303 at Parkhouse and use the A338 through to Old Sarum and from there onto the A345 to Countess roundabout in Amesbury.
Eastbound traffic on March 26/27 will leave the A303 at Countess and head for the Beehive roundabout and on to the A338 to Parkhouse to rejoin the A303.
Two slip roads will replace the old Porton Road eastbound and westbound slip roads at the huge junction.
The two existing slip roads will be permanently closed and traffic will be diverted until the new roads have been completed,.
The existing westbound slip road was closed last week and part of it will become a bridleway.
It is planned to have the new slip road opened on March 29 and until then traffic will continue to Countess roundabout and take the A345 south to Amesbury and turn into London Road, which leads back to Porton Road.
The eastbound slip road will close on March 14 and the new road will open for traffic on April 20.
Until the new road is ready, traffic from Porton Road will travel down London Road, right to Countess roundabout and then east on the A303.
The new slip roads are part of the £8m scheme to provide an all-movements junction at Porton Road as well as giving access to the new Solstice Park business and industrial estate.
The A303 is also set to close for a whole weekend, from Friday, April 2 to Monday, April 5, when further work to the bridge will be necessary.
And, the trunk will close again in June, when it is planned to demolish the old bridge on June 26/27.
The closure will again be the same as at the end of February, when the new bridge was lowered into place, with diversions operating from Countess roundabout for eastbound traffic and Parkhouse junction for westbound traffic.
