SCREWFIX FIRST DIVISION: A DEBUT goal from Ben Highmore helped Corsham Town to an impressive victory on Saturday as they put a dent in Bitton's title challenge.

The turning point of the match came on the stroke of half time when Mark Davis was sent off for a wild lunge on Corsham midfielder Frankie Coleman .

Corsham turned the screw after the break and a Ben Pope own goal and a header from Highmore secured the 2-0 win. To add to Bitton's woes manager Keith Brown was sent off for swearing at the referee's assistant.

Corsham manager Colin Bush said: "The boys were brilliant today. I felt we were well in the game even before the sending off and then after that we made the most of the chances we got.''

Corsham's were dealt a blow when defender and captain Nigel Curtis failed a fitness test after picking up a thigh injury playing for Wiltshire on Tuesday night, Jack Cullis deputised.

Russell Lodge and Coleman also played through the pain as they cemented their sixth place.

The hosts nearly took the lead on two minutes when Alan Griffin's header was saved low by Bitton goalkeeper Simon Crawford.

The nearest Bitton came to taking the lead was on 38 minutes when Mike Branch was denied by a point blank save from Craig Chaplin.

Two minutes before the break, Bitton's Adam Cole appealed for a penalty following a challenge from Jack Cullis but the protests were ignored.

A minute later Bitton were reduced to ten men. Despite losing the influential John Woods because of a knee injury on 56 minutes the second half belonged to Corsham.

Highmore came close to scoring the opener when Coleman's left wing cross just evaded him from three yards out.

The hosts came even closer to scoring on 68 minutes following great work down the left by Highmore. The striker's cross fell to Scott Lye whose shot crashed off the bar.

The opening goal eventually came with 15 minutes remaining when Pope, with Dave Kilmurray putting him under pressure, touched Coleman's right wing cross into his own net.

Corsham sealed the win when Highmore threw himself at a Griffin header .
