GAZETTE & HERALD: THE person who ran a notorious Calne drugs den, nicknamed Curry's because of the electrical goods seen going in and out, has been evicted.
The address, in a block of flats called Pym House, in Abberd Way, was a regular target of police raids, and was searched by officers the day before the eviction on Thursday.
Residents are delighted with Westlea Housing Association's decision to throw the owner out and hope the eviction will serve as a warning to drug users and dealers that their behaviour will not be tolerated on the estate.
Calne town councillor Roy Golding said: "It has been notorious as a drugs den for an awfully long time.
"People were intimidated by the flat because there was always people going in and out, although as far as I'm aware no one was ever threatened.
"The action Westlea took is the correct action and should send a signal to anyone else involved in illegal activities that they will not be tolerated by the housing association or the community."
Westlea spokesman Nick Taylor said the housing association applied for an eviction order because it had received no rent from the flat since last summer and it suspected the owner was not living at the flat.
"We know that the police attended this property on several occasions and realise that the eviction is good news for neighbours who have experienced distress and inconvenience linked to activities at this address," he said.
"Westlea remains committed to tackling anti social behaviour and welcomes the chance to work in partnership with residents and other agencies to make our neighbourhoods good places to live."
Sergeant for Calne police Nic Shorten, said: "It's a relief to local police officers that the housing association has taken such steps."
