WESSEX Water will wait until the schools' Easter holidays before laying a new water main in the centre of Devizes.
The 250mm main goes from the Crammer pond, across the Green, up Southbroom Road to the Southgate roundabout on the A360.
Work on the new main starts on April 5 for the two week Easter holidays so that access to Devizes School is not affected during term time.
The first phase will take the main from the Southgate roundabout to the fire station in Southbroom Road.
The half-term break, starting on May 31, will be used to lay the new pipe from the Green to the Crammer.
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation along Potterne Road, Southbroom Road, Nursteed Road and part of London Road during the work, which is part of a larger project to provide water to the new housing developments along London Road and Nursteed Road.
An exhibition of the proposed works will be mounted at the Corn Exchange on April 22 to give residents a better idea of what is happening.
