DEVIZES AC, on top of their game all season and winners of the local Upper Thames Angling Times Winter League in fine style, failed to book a place in the national final.
The Devizes team could only finish last on virtually their own water, the Kennet and Avon Canal, on Saturday.
It was disappointing, but they were not alone as many other fancied teams also fell by the wayside in a match that was very patchy.
Hayes won the match, followed by Delcac, Daiwa Gordon League and Dam/Lock.
The Wednesday Club held their match at Lechlade Marina. A total of 10 competitors all caught silver fish with Cliff Brown winning with 6lb 9oz, ahead of Pete Saunders (4-15-0).
There was also a tie for third place between Ricky Spiteri and Pete Gilbert, each with 3lb 6oz.
The BCA match was also a hard-fought affair on the Potters stretch of the canal at Bedwyn. Derek Hillier needed just 3lb 4oz to win ahead of Sid Webb (3lb) and Mick Flynn (2-7-0).
