COUNCILLORS in Swindon are to be given a lesson in how local authorities are run.
A seminar on the financial nuts and bolts of a council's financial operation will be staged for councillors later in the year at the Civic Offices in Euclid Street, Swindon after the June elections when some old faces may well have been replaced by new blood.
The seminar will focus on:
Understanding how a local authority is financed.
How to identify sources of revenue and capital finance, plus how to appreciate the constraints of each type of funding.
The likely changes to local government finance, accounting and best-value obligations.
The roles and responsibilities of elected members and officers in relation to local authority finance issues.
The provisional date for the seminar is September 2, from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.
