CHIPPENHAM NEWS: CREATIVE youngsters at Queen's Crescent School will soon get to eat off the latest additions to their Chinese project.
The 90 Year 3 and 4 pupils have each made their own ceramic plates based on the ancient Chinese story of the willow pattern.
Their handiwork is currently on display on a wall at the Chippenham school, but once this finishes the youngsters are looking forward to testing out their creations.
Inspired by the 1,000-year-old tale, the youngsters first drew up their designs on paper before getting stuck into some pottery action.
Deputy head and Year 3 and 4 teacher Suzanne Holder said: "The
children were quite impressed by the story and created their own willow plates as a result. It was all systems go when we did it and we had lots of
parents come in to help out.
"Once they come down from the display I think most of the children will be eating off the plates.
"We have taken a really cross-curricular approach to this. There are seven versions of the willow story so they have been looking at these in their literacy lessons.
"Some of them have even designed willow pattern wallpaper on the school's computers."
The whole school has been taking part in the Chinese project, which has also seen pupils make sculptures of dragons, terracotta warriors and Koi carp.
