A TRAINEE factory engineer from Trowbridge has been nominated for an award for battling through his studies despite suffering from a debilitating illness.
Daniel Latchem, 21, who works at frozen foods firm apetito, has been nominated for a gong at this year's Learning Champions Awards, organised by the Learning and Skills Council Wiltshire and Swindon.
Mr Latchem was diagnosed last year as suffering from Coeliac an intestinal condition caused by an adverse reaction to gluten.
Coeliacs often suffer from severe stomach pains, constant weight changes and mouth ulcers as a result of the condition.
Mr Latchem's determination to overcome the condition and continue with his apprenticeship at apetito earned him the nomination.
Mr Latchem said: "For many years my health has affected my life, but I enjoy my job and I didn't want to give it up. It's nice to be recognised for this."
