CHILDREN from a Melksham school performed the ribbon cutting ceremony at the opening of the town's newest store yesterday.
Youngsters from St Michael's Primary School were asked to help open the new Co-op store in Pembroke Road.
Manager Jason Delaney said: "As a community retailer it is appropriate that we involve the community in our events and we are delighted our local school is playing a central role in the relaunch."
To mark the occasion the pupils were presented with a cheque for £250 for their school.
The former Alldays store, part of a 600-branch buyout by the Co-operative group 17 months ago, has undergone a £120,000 refit.
The new store will also see the introduction of the famous Co-op divi, through which customers can earn cash back on all their shopping. The modern dividend scheme also incorporates a community element, with funds donated to local community projects and charities.
Mr Delaney said: "In the best traditions of the Co-op, it will make its contribution to community life."
