A PUB landlord has met police in the aftermath of a raid on his premises. Dave Simmons, licensee at the Masons Arms, Bradford on Avon told officers he would tighten up procedures after three underage youths were caught drinking at his Newtown pub.
Mr Simmons, who labelled the police operation as 'over-the-top', met Sgt Mark Rees and west Wiltshire licensing officer Jacqueline Gallimore, when he said people caught dealing drugs would be banned for life and vowed to check IDs of all young people visiting his premises.
Sgt Rees said: "The landlord agreed that young people leaving his premises at closing time could sometimes be boisterous.
"He said now he has been made aware he would ensure that his customers gave more consideration for local residents when leaving his public house.
"He was upset to discover that one youth had brought a large quantity of controlled drugs into the premises and maintained he would not tolerate drugs in his premises."
A 17-year-old man arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis with intent to supply and possessing a false ID is on police bail. Police cannot arrest underage drinkers. Sgt Rees said other pubs and bars in Bradford on Avon would be visited soon.
