THE winner of a karaoke contest in Trowbridge won a prize worth nearly £1,000 on Monday night.
Tom Dobbin, 20, won a day in a recording studio with a songwriter and producer, tickets to a concert in Hyde Park, two nights in a four-star hotel and £100 in cash after judges in the Chicago Rock karaoke contest decided he was the winner for his rendition of two Lionel Richie songs.
Mr Dobbin was joined on the podium by two colleagues from the Starry Eyes singing project, with Nicky Davis in second place and Pete Brooks in third.
Sally Boyle, who set up the Starry Eyes project in Trowbridge, said: "Confidence is the key with our singers and it was so impressive seeing them on stage in Chicago Rock."
Ten finalists performed for the judges at the club.
Heats for the competition began just after Christmas and organisers were inundated with hundreds of entries.
Club marketing manager Ceri Burrell said: "We kept the prizes secret and there was quite a lot of excitement as to what they would be. I am pleased to say that no one went away empty-handed.
"This is the second year we have held a karaoke competition and the standard is just getting higher and higher."
