CANNABIS may have played a part in the death of a teenager killed in a road crash near Trowbridge, a coroner heard.
Oliver Davey, 17, died on July 5, 2003, after being thrown from a car in which he was a passenger after an accident on a bend at Ashton Common.
At the coroners' court in Chippenham on Wednesday driver James King, 19, denied he had smoked cannabis before the accident.
He and Mr Davey had been to a friend's house in Edington and were returning to Trowbridge in Mr King's car just before 4am.
The three other people in the car walked away from the accident with minor injuries.
Mr King tested negative for alcohol but refused to give a blood sample to be tested for drugs.
Statements from two other passengers, Nicholas Brickell and Gethin Ellis, said Mr King and Mr Davey had been with a group of youngsters who were smoking the drug earlier in the day.
Recording a verdict of accidental death coroner Nigel Brookes said: "I think it is more likely than not that he (Mr King) had had some cannabis that evening and that may well have affected his judgement."
