THE Rugby World Cup is coming to Trowbridge as part of its whistlestop tour of the country.
Sports fans will have two hours to catch a glimpse of the historic trophy in the Civic Hall as it passes through the county.
Five west Wiltshire rugby clubs are joining together to host the event, planned for Good Friday.
The cup will go on display in an armoured glass case with tight-security expected.
Ron Jones, secretary of Westbury Rugby Club, said the cup was originally destined for the School of Infantry in Warminster, but these plans were shelved.
"It is definitely coming to Trowbridge now which is exciting for me as we are really pushing to get things happening in this area. We always miss out," he said.
"We are expecting to have a huge turnout but we have to work out how to make sure as many people see it as possible as it is only here for two hours."
A big screen showing highlights of the 2004 World Cup including Jonny Wilkinson's last-gasp drop-goal against Australia in the final will be erected to entertain the crowds.
Money raised from the event will go to the Wooden Spoon charity.
Early indications are that the cup will be in Trowbridge between 7pm and 9pm.
