Ref. 29491-45TASTY treats were on sale at Ridgeway School in Wroughton yesterday but behind the coffee and cakes was a serious message.
As part of her GCSE Citizenship course, Lucy Cairns, 15, set up a display stand, selling a range of Fair Trade goods.
Food technology students also lent a hand, cooking up some mouth-watering cakes and biscuits.
Lucy wants to encourage more people to buy Fair Trade products, which ensure third world food producers are given a fair price for their goods.
She said: "I'd like to see people just adding one Fair Trade product to their weekly shopping list. If everyone did it, it would make a massive difference.
"With the extra money they would be able to afford proper education for their children.
"I'm hoping the stall would have made people more passionate about the issue."
On Tuesday Lucy visited the Steam Museum where she met a coffee grower from Guatemala.
She said: "He was so enthusiastic, it just made me more determined to do this."
Mayor Derek Benfield said: "All credit to the students who took part in this project. The Ridgeway is an excellent school and the town should be very proud of it."
