Ref. 23234-10Before the hotel was even completed, it had already hit the headlines.
In February last year when construction work had not long been underway, two builders cheated death when a concrete stairwell collapsed beneath them.
The men were working at the site when the eight tonne 50ft high stairwell gave way.
The hotel was sealed off as a team of paramedics treated one of the injured workers.
He was placed in a neck brace and fed a drip before being carried on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance and taken to the Great Western Hospital.
The second man, who was on the stairs as they collapsed, was also treated at the GWH, but his injuries were not as serious.
A woman who worked at a nearby hostel reported feeling the ground shake and dialled 999.
Two ambulances, a fast response car and three fire engines attended the scene and six police officers helped cordon off the area.
