DEVIZES ran out 19-5 winners over basement side Westbury in their Southern Counties South match.

Fresh from beating Wootton Bassett, Devizes consolidated their league position with a comprehensive win.

Westbury, though, wasted the chance to go ahead in the first 10 minutes as they missed two penalties.

After one of these attempts, Devizes scrum-half Tom Collins took a quick drop-out, made ground, and took play to within five metres of the Westbury line. Hooker Ian Carter, though, dropped the pass with the line at his mercy.

Westbury it was who took the lead with a try from a lineout move.

A Collins-inspired Devizes cut the deficit with a penalty from Sean O'Sullivan and with Mike Walsh commanding the lineouts and skipper James Gaiger harrying the Westbury threequarters, Westbury were never allowed to settle.

Two more O'Sullivan penalties gave Devizes a 9-5 lead and Gaiger eventually went over for his side's only try. O'Sullivan converted and slotted another penalty to complete the scoring.
