THE sudden closure of the George Davis flower shops has caused difficulties for another florist with a similar name.
Customers of George Lesley Flowers have been asking if George Lesley is going out of business since the Davis shop in Wood Street and the affiliated House of Flowers in Victoria Road went into insolvency at the beginning of the month.
Owner Kate Hurst said: "We have had various people coming in and asking if they could buy the silk flowers in the Wood Street shop or phoning to ask if we were George Davis. But when a corporate client I have had for several years phoned and asked if we were still trading I got worried."
Ms Hurst, 55, who was once married to George Davis, made it clear that there had been no connection since their divorce in 1981. She had been running her two shops in Cricklade Road and Groundwell Road for around 20 years and they are not affiliated with the Davis business.
