TWO Swindon primary schools are still on the glory trail in the Sainbury's English Schools FA Cup.
In the nationwide schools six-a-side football competition for children under 11, which is backed by former England international Teddy Sheringham, Wanborough and Nythe Schools have qualified for the South-West regional finals.
Wanborough will represent Wiltshire in the large school section (over 100 pupils) at Lydiard Country Park, on Saturday, March 20, while Nythe compete in the small schools section the following Saturday, March 27, at Wanborough Primary School.
Both schools reached this stage of the competition after winning the Swindon qualifying competition and then their respective county finals.
Wanborough recorded three wins out of three over Catherine Wayte, Penhill and Sevenfields to win Group 1, while Goddard Park progressed from Group 2.
In the county final played as a round robin Wanborough beat Avenue, Salisbury 3-0, Parachial, Melksham, 2-0, drew with Goddard Park 0-0 but the pool decider was the 1-0 win over Clarendon School, Tidworth, which gave them 10 points, one more than Clarendon.
Nythe took the plaudits in the Swindon Small Schools final with a 1-0 win over a spirited King William Street School side.
In the county final they won both of their group matches beating Forest & Sandridge, Melksham, and Pitton, Salisbury.
Wanborough and Nythe will face the county champions from Gloucestershire, Somerset, Berkshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Devon, Cornwall, Channel Islands and Dorset.
The top two sides in both the large and small schools sections progress to the national finals due to be staged at the National Sports Centre, Lilleshall, on Saturday, April 24.
