SWINDON Council officers will be meeting the town's taxi drivers on March 30 in the council chamber.
Council leader Mike Bawden (Con, Old Town and Lawn), Coun Jemima Milton (Con, Wroughton and Chiseldon), the lead member for transport, Coun David Glaholm (Lab, Penhill), and Coun Stan Pajak (Lib Dem, Eastcott), will also be present.
Coun Glaholm wants to see a change to the council's policy on only having London black cabs for licensed hackney cab drivers.
He says this, although not the fault of the drivers, discriminates against wheelchair users because the current design of black cars does not allow a wheelchair to be secured safely, meaning black cabs are hard for the disabled to use.
