DEVIZES Town Council is supporting the proposed relocation of St Peter's Primary School in Bath Road to a new site at Quakers Walk.
Wiltshire County Council is consulting on the future provision of primary school places in Devizes and one of the options is to move St Peter's, which has suffered from falling pupil numbers, next to Quakers Walk.
Another option is not to move St Peter's and open a new school at Quakers Walk and the third option is not to build a new school but use up surplus spaces at existing schools.
At a meeting on Tuesday night, town councillors agreed unanimously to support the option of relocating St Peter's to the Quakers Walk site.
Coun Peter Evans said: "The governors at St Peter's are quite happy about relocating to a new site and it would allow a new school to be built."
Coun Margaret Taylor said: "St Peter's has done very well and their recent Ofsted report reflects this. Moving into a new school is very appealing. They won't get a brand new building if they stay where they are."
Kennet district councillors have also backed the proposed move of St Peter's when they recently discussed the Devizes Strategic Development Brief. Consultation on the proposals runs out on March 26.
