Ref. 12446/2THE Gazette and Herald will have to look to its laurels after the young journalists at St Joseph's RC Primary School in Devizes set up their own school newspaper.

The Pupils' Press has just published its third edition after a hopeful launch just before Christmas.

The idea came from Terry Saint Pierre, the grandfather of a pupil at the school, who came in to work with children on computers.

Meeting weekly after school on a Tuesday, the editorial committee works with Mr Saint Pierre to create the edition on screen.

Deputy head Margaret Goodall said: "The children decide what goes into the newspaper and Mr Saint Pierre gives them technical advice. But they publish it. They are the editors.

"We didn't know whether it would take off or not, but they are loving it. We have definitely got some budding reporters here."

The pupils report on school events, on visitors to the school and if anyone has had any special holidays abroad.

They covered the recent retirement of parish priest Father Bernard Caszo and a piece on voluntary helper Louise Gordon on the occasion of her 80th birthday will appear in the next issue.

For the younger readers there are colouring competitions, word searches and a jokes column.

And, of course, St Joseph's sporting achievements are well documented.
