SALISBURY'S men's side beat Devizes 3-2 at home in the Wiltshire Cup semi-final, producing their best performance of the season.
Devizes started the stronger but the defence held firm to protect keeper Tim Green.
Salisbury won a series of short corners, with Dickie Head, Dan Dines and Rob Selbie forcing the keeper into exceptional saves from a variety of slip options.
Andy Grandfield missed an effort on the top of the D and Richard Harris hit the post when one on one with the keeper.
After the break, Salisbury went behind against the run of play when Ben Croxall saved a short corner shot on the line but was robbed when trying to clear.
However, Head drew the home team level with a diving effort. Duncan Saunsbury hit the sideboard before Dines threaded a through pass to Grandfield who calmly put Salisbury ahead.
Devizes then just managed to squeeze the ball over the goal-line from a melee but Croxall restored Salisbury's advantage by running half the length of the pitch before nutmegging the keeper.
The final will be against Marlborough on April 3 or April 4, with the venue yet to be announced.
Next week, Salisbury face Southampton University in their penultimate league game, at Skew Bridge (1pm kick off). A point will see them finish fourth but John Baker will still be on holiday, Head will be guesting for his old club in Germany, Richard Barter and Harris are unavailable and James Whittle is out with a groin and hamstring strain.
The ladies first team earned another valuable three points with a gutsy performance away to Yatton of Bristol.
They worked hard throughout the match to pressurise the Yatton defence but they struggled to turn possession into goals against a packed backline. Despite this, they scored in each half with both coming from well worked penalty corner routines. They have a tough fixture when BAC visit on Saturday (10am kick off).
