One of Swindon's high street opticians has said farewell to its old location, having set its sights on new premises in the town centre.

The new Specsavers Opticians, opposite Woolworths at 62-63 Regent Street, opens tomorrow after 12 years at Brunel House in Havelock Square.

It claims the new, purpose-built store is the largest in the region. It will have 10 testing rooms and an extra 2,000 sq ft of space over two floors.

The company is investing more than £50,000 in the latest eye examination equipment and in-store technology.

During its time at Havelock Square, the Specsavers store served more than 110,000 customers, dispensed almost 500,000 pairs of specs and an estimated five million pairs of contact lenses.

Store director David Grieves said: "The optical needs of Swindon's growing population during the last 12 years have changed considerably.

"With three extra testing rooms and the very latest equipment, we hope to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible for people to take good care of their eyesight."
