YOUTH FOOTBALL: WILTSHIRE Youth enjoyed the sweet taste of revenge when they thumped Berks and Bucks at Salisbury FC on Saturday.
Although Mel Gingell's side had already wrapped up the South West League Championship as they went into the final game of the campaign they still had a lot to play for.
Wiltshire had been looking to make up for their exit from the Mick Parry Memorial Trophy at the hands of Berks and Bucks and did so in style.
The win meant they finished the league season with five wins from five games having scored 28 goals and conceded just two.
Having guaranteed their play in the Southern Counties final, which could be played at Swindon Town's County Ground, they are waiting to see whether their opponents with be Gloucester or Cornwall.
Gingell said: "It was nearly a perfect season for us. The only thing I was a bit annoyed with was the two goals we conceded and I told the lads that.
"But they have done extremely well. It is so important for us to keep the senior side going because these young lads are our future and it is looking bright."
Wiltshire had felt hard done by when they lost 2-1 to Berks and Bucks in the cup but on Saturday they showed their class.
Bemerton's Josh Brigham netted the opener in the first half following good build-up play from Trowbridge's Ricky Hulbert and Warminster's Lee Davidson.
In the second half Hulbert was scythed down inside the Berks and Bucks box and Davidson converted the penalty.
Man of the match Hulbert scored an individual goal for the third and he then crossed for Bemerton's Rob Ivermee to bury a far post header and complete the scoring.
Gingell added: "If it was a boxing match it would have been stopped at 2-0 because we so outplayed them.
"Last time we played them the best side did not win and we were disappointed to get knocked out of the cup. At the end the only way to respond to that was in the way we did.
"The lads have really given everyone a lift. Our 11-0 record win was icing on the cake because we really made history with that.
"On Saturday I told them that if we could go through the whole season unbeaten then no-one could ever beat that, only equal it.
"Berks and Bucks had one shot that hit the bar but our goalie didn't have to make a save. It was a good all round performance. The best thing was seeing the players from different clubs all coming together."
