TROWBRIDGE LEAGUE: TWO more meetings between Broughton Gifford and North Bradley Saints is the mouth-watering prospect after a 4-4 semi-final thriller in the Pied Piper Promotions-sponsored A and B Cup.
Both sides had their stars. Gifford goalkeeper Kevin Challis's brilliance stood between Saints and a third cup final appearance and for Saints Craig Brown was instrumental in three goals, the second after a classy juggling act on the left.
Gifford, so often out of the starting blocks early, suffered a reverse in fortunes as Richard Bliha and Andy Colebrooke's header delivered Saints' goals in the 15th and 17th minutes. But Gifford, unbeaten in 20 matches, can never be written off and Matt Cole's tap-in from Price's 21st minute pass was the start of a tremendous four-goal reply.
John Hubbard, one of the most influential mid-fielders in the league today, turned scorer, levelling first in the 32nd minute and putting Gifford ahead with a deflected shot three minutes after the break. And when Price's half-struck shot proved sufficient to beat keeper Stuart Powell in the 69th minute it looked all over.
But Price's dismissal led to Saints' own great recovery. Carl Davies reduced the arrears in the 76th minute and five minutes from the end of normal time Steve Eade headed an equaliser from Brown's corner.
Rudloe await the winners of the replay after inflicting a second semi-final defeat in eight days on Division One rivals The Deverills, the 3-2 verdict being masterminded by joint managers Tim Jefferies and Stuart Hynds. A Jefferies' penalty put Rudloe ahead only for Scott Gallazi and Darren Munro to give Deverills the lead. Two replies from Hynds settled the issue.
In the league, saturated conditions forced Castle Combe to switch their back-to-back fixture against Dynamo West End to Sutton Benger but the change of venue made no difference, as goals from James Pope (penalty), Paul Smith, Paul Maddox and Dan Gernonn gave Steve Tadhunter's outfit a 4-1 success. Jeremy Curtis replied.
