NORTH WILTS YOUTH LEAGUE: THE last set of cup semi-finals were played this weekend including those in the Evening Advertiser-sponsored under nines competition.

Ashton Keynes made it into the final with a 2-0 win at Purton. In an excellent game of football, two Daniel Roberts' goals were enough to secure a place in the final. Ashton Keynes could also afford to miss a penalty, Purton keeper Gavin Roberts saving the spot kick.

Ashton Keynes are joined in the final by Wootton Bassett Town, who won by a similar scoreline against visitors Robins, in another cracking semi-final tie.

Josh Shama and Philip Wardall scored the goals.

Under 12s Cup

IN the battle of the top two sides in the age group at Amesbury it was the home side who emerged with a comfortable 7-1 win against Lydiard Youth.

Playing with the wind, Amesbury finally broke through after Shaun Dixon picked the ball up wide on the left and cut inside to fire home from 25 yards.

Amesbury then piled on the pressure and deservedly scored again through Dixon.

Amesbury went into the break with a 3-0 half-time lead when Sam Gillotts long free kick broke clear for Sam Aldridge to slot home.

Lydiard came back strongly in the second-half and got back into the game with a goal 15 minutes into the half.

Amesbury restored their three goal advantage when Aldridge raced clear from the half-way line to slot home a decisive fourth goal. They added further goals from Tom Plant, Callum Coker and Aldridge.

It was a somewhat closer affair at Ferndale Rodbourne where the odd goal in five was enough to give visitors Old Town United a place in the final.

Old Town had been devastated by the news on Friday of the death of their former chairman Kevan Hobbis and it was a fitting tribute to his memory that they won through to a County Ground final for the second consecutive season.

Nathan Gambling and James Trevors scored for the home side, and Sam McVeigh (2) and Sam Berwick for Old Town. Old Town will now be looking to go one better than last season when they lost in the final to Fairford.
