Ref: 29509-23THE BUDGET:Smoker and mother-of-three Catherine Bays, 28, said she and her husband Steven spend about £50 on roll-up cigarettes a month.

The couple buy a packet of rolling tobacco a day, which costs an average of £2. Catherine, a cleaner, smokes about five roll-ups each day.

She and Steven, a machine operator in Wootton Bassett, live with their children Lucy, seven, Steven, five, and Tamzin, three, in Pinehurst.

Each month they take home about £1,600 in earnings. Catherine said: "We don't have any investments or savings so that income is about it."

Their rent costs them £53 a week, while an average grocery shop will set them back about £50 each week, or £200 a month.

They spend about £20 each month on going out.

Catherine said: "We don't really go out much as the children are quite young still.

"I don't know how the budget will affect us. We don't spend a huge amount on tobacco.

"Roll-ups are cheaper than cigarettes anyway."

Reacting to the Budget, she said: "An extra 8p a packet doesn't sound very much, but then when you think about it, that's actually quite a lot.

"Over a week, that really adds up, so yes, I do think it's risen a lot, but not enough yet to make me think of giving up."
