A DEPLETED Wootton Bassett failed to turn up for the first half of their Southern Counties South and woke up at half-time to find they were 19 points down as the home side dominated all phases of the game.

The team re-organised and regrouped so successfully that the second half was virtually one-way traffic, with their pack winning a good supply of possession and play being orchestrated by half-backs Sam Fulling and Sean Millwaters.

Bassett spurned several kickable penalties as they fought to get into the game pressuring the Redingensian defence at every opportunity.

They finally rode their luck as centre Mike Dixon failed to take a pass in the centre but recovered to touch down for a deserved converted try, which was soon followed by some of the old Millwaters' magic as he cut through the defence for Bassett's second.

Despite the forwards continued efforts, especially the strong running of Matt McKee, Bassett were unable to recover the half-time deficit finishing seven points adrift.
