DEVIZES Rugby Club officials have spoken of their disappointment after bosses went back on a promise to bring the World Cup to the town.

The trophy is being taken to clubs around the country and Devizes was on the original list for a visit on April 10. But this week of the club was told it had been snubbed.

Club official Nick Dark said: "There is huge support for the game in and around Devizes and we know that everyone will be disappointed to learn that the cup will not be coming to the town at Easter.

"But we are hopeful that Devizes will be included when the tour comes round again later in the year."

Mike Vandrau of Activate UK, who are organising the Sweet Chariot tour said: "The Dorset and Wiltshire schedule must have been re-jigged to make sure the Webb Ellis Trophy is seen by as many people as possible and to make it easier for the people on tour to get around."

The trophy will be in the centre of Swindon during the morning on April 10 and then be displayed in the Neeld Hall, Chippenham, during the afternoon.
