We have been recycling for some time, storing up cans, bottles, papers and plastics and every so often taking them in my trailer to the excellent Hills Recycling Plant at Melksham.

Then we were told Market Lavington was to get a limited collection of paper only and we put our boxes out for collection on Friday, March 12.

Nobody turned up.

We called their helpline to query this and their response was terse and unhelpful. We have since had a reply to say the refuse collectors didn't realise Spin Hill was part of the village.

This isn't news to us. We are still the only part of the village without a speed limit despite a

recent, tragic fatal accident along this stretch of road. Officially it appears we were never intended to be part of the scheme and the boxes were delivered in error. Apparently we will now be included due to the interest shown and we await the next collection date on March 26.

I'm not sure what materials are collected in the Devizes town area but I was rather disappointed our local collection was restricted to paper only.

My youngest daughter lives near Neath in South Wales. She is located up on a hillside far and yet there is a collection of all recyclable waste except plastics from her doorstep.

Recently we stayed at a remote hamlet called Hexworthy in the middle of Dartmoor and they do a full collection there and in all the towns and villages on Dartmoor. Kennet District Council seems to have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century on this vital issue.

We are supposed to be getting our own recycling facility soon but that doesn't help those without transport. One thing we can all be sure is being collected, part of the village or not, is our council tax each month.
