SPORTS commentator and author Peter Alliss was the guest of honour at a fundraising dinner held by Avon Rubber, which raised almost £1,500 for local groups.
Mr Alliss has strong links with Avon Rubber beginning when, as an up-and-coming golf professional he won many of his early tournaments using Avon golf grips manufactured at Melksham.
He later became a consultant to the company on golf grip design and this association has now lasted well over 40 years.
Steve Willcox, chief executive of Avon Rubber, said: "Peter has been a great friend and ally to Avon over the years and I was delighted when he agreed to help us yet again."
Mr Alliss was joined at the event, held at the Pear Tree in Purton, by winners of competitions and charity auctions were held to boost the funds raised.
The money will be split between the Wiltshire and Swindon Community Foundation, the Wiltshire Scout Association and Trowbridge Junior Rugby Club.
